‘Catmose College is an outstanding school’ Ofsted 2012

Catmose College is a secondary academy school on Huntsmans Drive in Oakham, Rutland. The majority of students are drawn from the county town of Oakham and surrounding villages, although many are attracted from a wider area including Leicestershire and Melton through parental choice.

The College is one of highest attaining in Rutland and Leicestershire. The Ofsted report in February 2012 rated the college ‘Outstanding’ in all categories. We offer a broad range of experiences beyond the classroom to build independence, resilience and leadership skills that are critical for success in adult life. Our primary aim is to encourage each student to become a mature, independently minded individual who has the necessary skills and knowledge to be of value to themselves and society. We know that every student is talented, so our role as educators is to ensure these talents are fully realised. To achieve this, we have high expectations of every student, emphasising the importance of hard work and doing one’s best in every circumstance.

Olympic sprint gold medallist, Darren Campbell, visited Catmose College today to tell his story and inspire a generation to believe in their dreams.

Our students recently took part in the annual BBC School Report Day. During the day the students learn about how to create a BBC news broadcast from writing scripts and keeping up with the latest stories to interviewing and filming.

Well done to the Catmose Physics team who competed against some very tough national competition to come 3rd overall in the ‘extreme’ physics competition and gaining another College trophy to join what is now a very full cabinet this year. India Hunnikin was also judged 1st out of 48 students …

Our Year 7 students performed songs from the musical ‘Cats’ to primary schools and parents throughout the day.They all did an amazing job and everyone enjoyed watching them perform. The full afternoon performance to parents can be viewed below.

Over four days the students will discover the best that the Opal Coast has to offer including visits to Hardelot and Le Touquet.
